Finding Your Motivation

Life can sometimes throw challenges our way, making us feel unmotivated. But guess what? Motivation is within reach! This article is here to help you discover what fires you up, find your spark, and learn how to keep that motivation alive!

What is Motivation?

Motivation is the exciting drive that pushes you to achieve your dreams! It's influenced by how much your goals mean to you, the benefits of achieving them, the consequences of not reaching them, and your self-expectations.

What are the Steps to Finding Motivation?

  1. Ask yourself questions about your long-term plan:

Why did I choose to continue my education?

What made me choose my career path?

How can a degree help me in my career?

How will my present affect my future?

  2. Start with smaller goals

Ask yourself: What can I do right now to get me closer to my long-term goal?

With the long-term goal in mind, make a short-term goal that is realistic and achievable.

Break this short goal into even smaller action steps and set reminders to complete them.

Find people who will support you and hold you accountable.

  3. Assess your progress:

Reflect on your progress towards achieving those short-term goals.

Determine if your current motivation is realistic or needs changes.

Determine if your current methods and habits are effective or need changes.

  4. Reward yourself for your work:

    Take time to reward yourself!

Doing activities you enjoy and spending quality time with others are just a few examples of rewards.

How do I Stay Motivated?

  • Regularly reflect on your progress: Reflecting on how far you have come will motivate you to continue to move forward and boost your self-confidence.

  • Continue to make short-term goals each week. Doing so will put you in a habit of wanting to be productive.

  • Reward yourself: Rewarding yourself for accomplishing goals will make you enjoy the task at hand. However, make sure that your reward does not deter you from your long-term goal.

Finding Resources:

Use all the resources:

  • Talk to a mentor. They can help you determine paths to follow that is best for you. They can also help you figure out how close you are to reaching milestones.

  • Talk to an Academic Success Coach. They are here to help individuals find their motivation and work on accomplishing their long-term goals.

  • Use efficient learning strategies at all times.

Best Regards,
